Structural steel protection

The level of fire resistance required for columns and beams depends on the purpose group and size of the building and this can be found in the local building code. Any column or beam must have at least the fire resistance required for any other element of structure to which it provides support (whether that other element is loadbearing or not).

Any column or beam forming part of more than one building or compartment must have a fire resistance which is the greater of the relevant requirements.

SUPALUX® can be used to provide up to 120 minutes fire resistance to structural steelwork. The board can be screwed directly to a light gauge steel frame to form encasements.
